What You Need In Your Toolbox to Make Common Plumbing Repairs

Plumbing is one of those things that most home owners try to stay clear of and that they dread having to deal with. In this blog, we are listing some of the most common tools that every home owner should have in his or her toolbox to save them from incurring costly plumbing expenses:

  1. A Water Pressure Testing Gage

This is an inexpensive tool that you probably won’t use all the time, but it is definitely worth having in your arsenal. If you use public water, the pressure that the city or municipality sends to your house is substantially higher than the pressure that your valves or fixtures in your house are rated for. Your house has a pressure regulator valve that converts the pressure of the water that the city sends to your house to levels that are safe for your valve or fixtures. Using a water pressure gage can help you dial in your water pressure to suitable levels for your house and also help you to diagnose problems. Having a tool like this around and checking your water pressure regularly is a relatively cheap and easy way to stay on top of potentially expensive problems.

  2. Blow Torch

Using copper requires soldering joints together and you can’t do that without a blow torch. A blow torch is a useful tool, especially if you live in an older home with galvanised piping.

  3. Pipe Wrench

A pipe wrench is a must-have if you live in a home with galvanised pipes. There is no way that you are going to pull galvanised pipes apart without a pipe wrench (and even with a pipe wrench, it can be quite a job). Drain clean-out caps around your home are also typically larger than any other wrench that you might have, so having a pipe wrench on hand will make the job easier.

These are only a few of the must-have tools that you will need for common plumbing repairs. If you need to rent plumbing equipment, then contact Talisman Tool and Hire today.
